A brilliant introduction to Javascript.
Very readable and takes a straightforward practical approach that will
have you scripting within minutes. Buy this book together with Elizabeth
Castro's "HTML for the world wide web" and beginners can't go wrong. The
2 books really need be used together. Highly recommended.
Poor for learning
This book covers some introductory scripting, but does not develope
the concepts behind most of what it attempts to teach. If you already know
JS, then most of this book is redundant. If you don't know JS, then don't
buy this book to get a solid foundation of knowledge. The publisher does
a good job of laying out the printing of the book and its graphical presentation
is refreshing, but it
performs poorly on teaching incrementally. I don't know what audience
this book was written for, frankly.
An good FIRST book for JavaScript
This book gets you started with JS quickly. You get all the scripts
that you can download and run straight away. It covers some very useful
topics and details a lot of the fancy things that FrontPage etc do automatically
- which is good because it enables you to do things more streamlined and
have full control over the code. In short the book gets you started and
does so comfortably - if you have programmed before then you should have
no trouble completing the book in a few days and the good thing is that
it leaves you with a thirst for more JavaScript. The book has some excellent
pointers of where to go once you have finished the book i.e. websites and
other books. One criticsm - It is biased towards Netscape, slightly but
did not prove too much of a problem. For the price - Buy it.
